The answer is actually clear.

By the time the preclear knows that when he's clear he'll do chess
computations in 1/120th or even 1/180th the time he'd taken as a
normal he also knows that it's a Suppressive Act to invalidate a
clear. See, e.g., HCO PL 4 August 1966 "Ethics -- Clears,
Invalidation of."

Not as an aside, wouldn't it be nice to be in a "state" where no one
invalidates you, or it's a High Crime if anyone does? That would
certainly be one of the EPs of clearing the planet.

By the time the preclear has enrolled, he's aboard, and if he's aboard
he's there on the same terms as the rest of Scientologists -- win or
die in the attempt. Ref. HCO PL 7 February 1965 "Keeping Scientology
Working." And he knows that "Suppressive Acts" get you sooner or later
and one way or another disposed of quietly and without sorrow.

By the time he's accepted that when he's clear he'll be a chess master
he's seen pre-clears and clears and even OTs disappear and the
Scientology world snap back together seamlessly without them, and
without a word or a whimper about them.

By the time he's on his Dianetics program, forking over big bucks for
hours, days and intensives of R3R, and he's really cogged on what it
will really mean to do chess computations, or, as Hubbard says, any
mental computations, in 1/120th or 180th of the time he now takes to
do them, he's also learned that the only people the tech does not work
on are the SPs. See, e.g., HCO PL 5 April 1965 "Handling the
Suppressive Person -- the Basis of Insanity."

He's smart enough to know that when he does his mental computations in
1/180th of the time they now take, he'll have 180 times as much time
as he does now to do other mental computations. Let's say he does a
billion mental computations as a normal on a normal day. A clear
could fit 180 billion into the same day.

And since a clear would need less sleep, and in fact, Hubbard
essentially says, computes even in his "sleep," a clear would knock
out more than two hundred times, maybe as many as three hundred times
the daily computations.

En route to clear, our preclear learns very early that SPs comprise
precisely 2 1/2 percent of the planetary population. He also knows
that Scientology has more than its share of SPs because it delivers on
its promises, which drives the SPs mad. If you are clear you *will* do
mental computations, such as those of chess, in a minimum of 1/120th
the time, and anyone who says otherwise is an SP. Above all else, any
preclear wants to know that he is not in that 2 1/2 percent.

This fellow has to go clear because only SPs would not want to go
clear. If he was an SP he'd be disposed of quietly and without
sorrow. Heck, if RTC even just suspected that he was an SP he'd be
disposed of quietly and without sorrow.

So he goes clear. He gets announced at Friday night graduation, he
gets his cert and his clear number. He gets regged for his clear
bracelet, and he gets regged for the Sunshine Rundown, or whatever the
cult is now selling as the next step.

He knows he's not 120 times smarter, or 120 times faster at mental
computations. In fact, he knows that he is no smarter and no faster
at all. He knows his chess ability has not increased even one
computation. He knows he has no more time. He knows he didn't get any
of the promised results.

But he also knows to not say he didn't get the promised results,
because only SPs don't the promised results, only SPs are no case
gain, and all SPs are disposed of quietly and without sorrow. By this
time too he has learned very well to say nothing about all the other
promised results he paid for and didn't get enroute to clear. In fact
he has learned to not even bring such thoughts up to consciousness.

So when he goes clear he just has another set of thoughts to keep out
of his consciouness. Suppressed in his unconscious mind, which clearly
is not erased, alarm bells are ringing, but if he allowed the bells
into his awareness, he would be an SP.

Over the years he has seen hundreds of clears, none of whom did their
mental computations hundreds of times faster than normal wogs, or even
a fraction faster than wogs, but he doesn't bring that thought to
consciousness because he is terrified of being and being labeled SP.

It may be that the key to getting Scientology customers to realize
they didn't get the results Hubbard and Scientology promise, the key
to getting that ringing alarm bell heard, is first the elimination or
reduction of the terror that SPs and the fear of being or being
labeled SP generate in those Scientologists.
