We wish to offer our sincere appreciation for the support afforded by you during the New South Wales bushfire crisis.

Nearly one thousand Country Fire Service members were involved in the massive twenty five-day operation, which is now regarded as one of the biggest support operations in the nation's history.

The CFS became involved on December 26th when the New South Wales Government formally accepted an offer for assistance.

Within hours of this request South Australian crews were gearing up to be deployed in the Mount Hall area in the Blue Mountains.

With over one hundred bushfires burning out of control across the state, this bushfire was one of the largest and most difficult to combat, destroying nearly forty thousand hectares of land before it was brought under control.

One crucial element that added to the success achieved by the Country Fire Service was the support and sacrifice made by dozens of Australians, organizations and community groups.

Through the provision of equipment and services, and by allowing your staff to volunteer their time, you have provided outstanding assistance to the communities of South Australia and New South Wales.

Because of your support, the Country Fire Service was able to maintain an effective fire fighting force that attracted not only national but international recognition. It is the willingness of people to make a sacrifice to assist others that is the heart and soul of volunteer organization such as the CFS.
