I am sending you an e-mail on this, as I didn't think it appropriate to
take it up in the courtroom.
It was noticed that the reporter in the courtroom today had a copy of an
article which included the infamous quote by Justice Latey from a court
case in 1984 (in which the Church was not represented in any way). The
article had a note on it saying it was provided by Dialogue Ireland.
Aside from the irrelevance of this article to the reporting of the case
(see more later), providing such to the reporter is not in the spirit of
our agreement. Now, you may well come back on that and say that I have not
replied to you in the last few weeks and the process is dragging on for too
long. And you are right, it is dragging on too long, and I really do want
to speed it up. But while it is dragging on, we have been keeping our side
of the agreement, and Gerard Ryan has not, to the best of my knowledge,
been repeating the statements that you took exception to, or any others
that he could make of a similar nature.
For you to be passing on this "information" to a reporter, in a
obvious attempt to influence his reporting, does beg the question, why?
Now to come to the Latey decision itself. I am attaching
this, which puts this statement in the correct context. I can only think
that you haven't seen this before I can also provide documentation to back
I would be very interested in hearing back from you what your current
